MARKET MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
I.CONSTITUION:
Market Management Committee has been constituted as per the Tamil Nadu Specified Commodities (Regulation of location) Act 1996 so as to give necessary legal protection to the administration of Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex.The Market Management Committee is an Autonomous Functioning Body that oversees the functions of the Market.
Tamil Nadu Government has constituted the last Market Management Committee as per the G.O.(MS) No.136 HxUD (UD -111(1) Department dated 12.04.2007 with a total of 18 members headed by Member Secretary, CMDA as its Chairman and other official, Non official members including the traders representatives.
II.COMMITTEE:
The following are the members of the Market Management Committee as per Section 8 Constitution of Market Committee in Tamil Nadu Specified Commodities Markets(Regulation of Location) Act 1996.

III.ADMINISTRATION:
The Government appoints Chief Administrative Officer in the cadre of District Revenue Officer under whom Engineering, Administration & Community Officer are posted from Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority to look after the routine affairs of the Committee.
IV.Function of MMC:
The Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex is being maintained by the MMC from its inception i.e. from December 1996.
The main functions of MMC are as follows:
Administration and management of the market complex.
Day to day maintenance of the market complex viz. garbage cleaning, water supply, sewage system, electrical maintenance, public toilets, traffic regulation etc.,
Providing security facilities to the market complex.
Grant and Issue of Registration Certificate, license and renewal of licences to the traders to carryout authorised trade.
Leavy and collection of vehicle entry fee and maintenance charges.
Operation and maintenance of the Bio-Methanation Plant.

Bio-Methanation Plant:
The Bio-Methanation plant was established in Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex as a unique national level demonstration project in order to utilize the organic waste generated from the perishables market for power generation.This project is a joint venture between Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and the Ministry of Non conventional Energy Sources (MNES) of Government of India. This Project was founded on 25.08.2003 and inaugurated on 13.02.2006.
Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai is the Technical Agency for monitoring the implementation of this project.M/s. Enkem Engineers Private Limited (EEPL), Chennai has implemented the project on Turnkey basis in association with their collaborator M/s. ENTEC GMBH of Austria.CMDA has allocated 1.16 acre land for this project and the plant was constructed atRs.5.5Crores of which Rs.3.75 Crores borne by Ministry of Non conventional Energy Source.
The plant is designed to handle about 30 Metric Tonnes of perishable wastes per day and will generate on an average of 2375M of gas through “Bio gas InducedMixing Arrangement” (BIMA digester) to produce 5000 units of electricity per day.The energy production is being fed into the TNEB grid.The plant is functioning since 04.09.2005.
Now, the Operation and Maintenance of Bio-Methanation plant has been entrusted with M/s. Ramky Engineers Enviro Ltd., along with the work of removal of solid waste in the market complex.
